Record changes to only 1 cell

In a sheet where another user and I download files and mark them in different stages (proofed, processed, uploaded), is there a way to record who last modified a cell rather than a whole row? I'd like to have a cell automatically record who changed which phase. I know that I'm able to right-click a cell to see its history, but I want a way to review multiple cells easily without having to dig through the activity log to do it.

You can use the Smartsheet automation - Record a Date. In this automation, you can define the cell which triggers this automation to record the date when the change was made.

Yes, we have the Record a Date workflow set up, but that doesn't mark which user changed the cell. I'm looking for the equivalent of "Modified By" that will only update when a specific cell is changed instead of recording changes for the entire row.

I've developed a solution that lets you store the date or value.<\/strong><\/p>

You'd use the copy-row automation and a VLOOKUP or combination of INDEX\/MATCH to make it work.<\/p>

We'd trigger the copy-row to another sheet and get the created date\/other value and then use the VLOOKUP\/INDEX\/MATCH to get it back to the main sheet in another so-called helper column. As long as you have a unique id\/value that we can use, it will work.<\/p>

Also, this opens up more options with auto-numbering and similar.<\/p>

Depending on other workflows, you could reuse one sheet for multiple workflows.<\/p>
