I really need to import or copy and paste contacts - but how?

Hi,

I need to import, each week, a series of assigned rows from another system.

As far as i can tell, the only way to do this is to copy text into the contacts cell and, laboriously, click on each one to change it to a contact. This will be about 1200 clicks, although I can reduce that by some dragging with rows in the right order.

Now, this doesn't seem acceptable. I can't use a VLOOKUP because they don't work in contact columns. I can'tmanuallycopy and paste an email address, because that doesn't work.

Icanuse find and replace as this seems to trigger the contact list to lookup the Smartsheet user and assign it as a "proper" contact - but this will take longer than the dragging option.

Can smartsheet please change the system so a pasted email address which matches the system address gets converted into a contact?

You can use formulas in Contact Columns so you could use either a VLOOKUP or an INDEX/MATCH (recommended) combination.

Hmmm, it doesn't like I can use formulas. Had a look around - I think this is because it is being used for resource management. I may be able to do a copy-paste workaround with an extra contact column.
